Geolocation Positional System (GPS) Experience Study for Emotions and Depression

This study is looking at how your real-world behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and brain activity are connected. Researchers will use a mobile phone app called "Modifying Exploration" that uses your phone's accelerometer, WiFi, and GPS to automatically collect information about your activity. They want to see if this technology can help understand changes in positive emotional responses. You can join if you are between 18 and 50 years old, are willing to have an fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan, can respond to daily text messages about your emotions, and will use a GPS tracking app (FollowMee) on your smartphone for four months. The study aims to enroll 100 participants, but its current recruitment status is unclear.

Study design
This is an interventional study with 100 planned participants. It is a subset of a larger study that was approved in 2015.
What's involved
You would need to agree to informed consent, have an fMRI scan, respond to daily text messages, and use a GPS tracking app (FollowMee) on your smartphone for four months.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Your positive emotional response will be measured at the beginning of the study and up to 6 months later.

  • Change in positive emotional response as measured by ecological momentary assessmentBaseline, up to 6 months

Emotional response will be measured by computing a total mean score of "happy", "excited", "content", "attentive", "relaxed". The total mean score ranges from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater positive emotional response.
