Developing Cognitive Approaches for Vision Loss Adjustment

This study aims to create and test an 8-week group therapy program called "Integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Mindfulness Group Intervention for Adjustment to Vision Loss." This program combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps change unhelpful thinking patterns, with mindfulness practices to help people adjust to vision loss. You might be able to join if you are an adult (18 or older) experiencing any degree of vision loss and are willing to share your feedback. The study will measure how well the program helps people adapt to vision loss using a special scale. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Study design
This is an interventional study with a planned enrollment of 45 participants. It involves focus groups and pilot testing of a behavioral intervention.
What's involved
You would attend up to two focus group sessions to provide feedback, and if you participate in the pilot phase, you would attend eight weekly group therapy sessions. You will also complete assessments before and after the program.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Your adaptation to vision loss will be assessed at baseline and after the 8-week intervention period.

  • Change from Baseline in Mean Adaption to Vision Loss (AVL) Scale ScoreAssessed at baseline and following the 8-week intervention period

The AVL is a 24-item self-report questionnaire rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Items assess emotional and psychosocial adjustment to vision loss. Scores range from 1 to 5, with higher scores indicating better adaptation. Some items are reverse-scored.
