Coordinated Access for Addiction Recovery and Equity in VA Supportive Housing (CARE-VASH)
This study, called CARE-VASH, aims to help homeless-experienced Veterans (HEVs) in the HUD-VASH program stay in their housing and recover from substance use disorders (SUDs). Many Veterans leave HUD-VASH early, often due to SUDs. This study will introduce and evaluate two proven treatments: Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT), which includes medicines for alcohol and opioid use disorders, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD), a type of talk therapy. The study will look at how many Veterans receive these treatments and how well they are put into practice over 18 months. You can join if you are a homeless-experienced Veteran enrolled in the HUD-VASH program. There are no age restrictions or other exclusion criteria. The study plans to include about 7908 Veterans.
